2008 RULES

 
The following rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of Auto Race Promotions, Inc. Demolition Derby to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and, by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules. No express or implied warranty of safety shall result from publication of or compliance with these rules and/or regulations. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to participant, spectator, or official.

The Auto Race Promotions, Inc. Officials shall be empowered to permit minor deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in their opinion do not alter the safety factor. Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the Auto Race Promotions, Inc. Officials, and their decision is final. Auto Race Promotions, Inc. reserves the right to approve and/or reject all entries.

A. PARTICIPANT ENTRIES:

1. An entry fee will be charged for each car.

2. All persons MUST sign entry form, insurance waiver, and release form, and purchase pit pass before entering pit area. A sample of a waiver and release form is printed on the reverse side of this sheet. All drivers and pit men will be required to sign it or one similar before entering pit area. PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ IT!

3. No one allowed in race area under the influence of liquor. POSSESSION OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES IN THE PIT AREA WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF PIT PASS AND EXPULSION FROM THE PITS.

4. First three (3) heat races will be filled first, then fourth and fifth heat races as needed.

5. All drivers and riders MUST be 16 years or older. Participants 16 & 17 years old MUST have a PARENT sign a minor and release form. Pit persons under the age of 18 years old MUST have a parent/guardian sign minor and release form before entering pit area. NO EXCEPTIONS!

B. AUTOMOBILE BODY REGULATIONS:

1. Passenger cars, station wagons or convertibles (convertibles MUST have box type roll cage.) No trucks, Jeeps, hearses, or limousines. GM cars must be 1978 or newer. FORD, CHRYSLER and any FRONT WHEEL DRIVE car MUST BE 1980 or newer. Full size foreign cars may be of any year. If dashboard is removed, VIN# Plate MUST REMAIN. Cars competing in Mini-Car Class may be 1980 or newer, engine must MUST be six (6) cylinder or smaller and 105 inch or less wheelbase. Cars previously run in Demolition Derby may install new front clip. Any clip may be used on any car, MUST be installed in stock manner. Installation MUST be approved by ARPI Officials. No Pintos or Pacers allowed!

2. All cars MUST have car number exhibited on both front doors and on upright number plate on the roof of the car, minimum of 15 inches by 15 inches. Car numbers are registered first come first serve basis. No pre-registered numbers are allowed. NO PROFANITY will be allowed.

3. All glass MUST be removed before reaching race track. Windshields may remain in car, but if removed, driver MUST wear approved eye protection. All cars MUST have approved seat belts.

4. All rear seats MUST be removed.  All cars MUST be swept clean, both drivers compartment and trunk. No spare tires, broken glass or trash, etc. On Sedans, deck lid must remain in stock upright position, deck lid and quarter panels may be cut or pre-bent in any manner. Station wagon roof may be cut or pre-bent but cannot be bolted to floor. NO SEDAGONS.

5. Battery may be moved, but MUST be securely fastened and covered in front seat passenger floorboards. ONLY ONE AUTOMOBILE TYPE BATTERY ALLOWED.

6. Any type automotive radiator may be used but MUST be mounted in stock position. At drivers option he may compete without radiator, but MUST run on water in block only. NO RESERVE TANKS.

7. All cars must have either a bar, wire, chain, etc. running center mast from roof down to the firewall. All doors may be welded and reinforced. All external body and internal cage reinforcing must be designed for protection of driver and/or rider. External body reinforcing zone will run from six(6) inches in front of door to rear axle center line. All internal cages will be limited to a specific area, they may be installed from base of front windshield to eighteen(18) inches behind front seat. Internal cage supports (down tubes) MUST be welded to flat part of frame rails. NO welding to or on frame arches front or rear. The front down tubes MUST stay a minimum of six (6) inches behind the Z box on Fords and Chryslers and six (6) inches behind the front arches on GMs.

8. Stock gas tank MUST be removed from original position and mounted in rear seat area and secured by existing seat belts or added metal straps. NO CHAINS OR RUBBER STRAPS or round bottom tanks. A metal Marine (boat) tank is recommended. All tanks MUST have secure cap. All lines and fittings MUST be leakproof and meet approval of ARPI Officials. NO MORE THAN THREE (3) GALLONS OF GAS IN TANK. All cars equipped with an electric fuel pump MUST have some type of shut-off switch easily accessible to driver/rider. MUST meet approval of ARPI official.

9. Any OEM shock canister may be bolted or welded on any car. Amounts of bolts or welds may not exceed typical stock installation. For safety purposes shock tubes on shock bumpers may be lightly welded. Any OEM stock automobile bumper may be bolted or welded to the shock canister or stock bumper brackets. If you choose to bolt your bumpers to shock canisters or stock bumper bracket, you may use a piece of chain from the all thread on the hood and/or deck lid down to the bumper. If you choose to weld your bumper to shock canisters or stock bumper brackets, no chain may be used. Fenders and bumper ends may be trimmed to allow for wheel clearance.

10. Hoods MUST have two (2) holes, at least four (4) inches in diameter, on each side of carburetor—NOT directly on top of carburetor. IF HOOD IS REMOVED, EITHER FAN BLADE MUST BE REMOVED OR FAN BELT MUST BE CUT.

11. On all cars, hoods, trunks and tailgates may be secured with the following method: on front of car, two pieces of 3/4 inch all thread, with a washer no larger than six (6) inches or 1/4 inch thick, all threads MUST be mounted outboard of the radiator. In addition to all threads, four (4) 1/2 inch O.D. bolts with a washer no larger than two (2) inch square or four (4) pieces of wire or cable may be used. On the rear of car, two pieces of 3/4 inch all threat, with a washer no larger than six (6) inches or 1/4 inch thick, all threads may be mounted anywhere on trunk lid or tailgate. In addition to all threads, four (4) 1/2 inch OD bolts with a washer no larger than two (2) inch square or four (4) pieces of wire or cable may be used on the trunk or tailgate. All threads may be mounted through a stock body mount and replace existing bolt. All other body mount bolts may be replaced but MUST be replaced with OEM stock size bolt and washer. If rubber biscuits are removed MUST be replaced with 1-1/2 inch steel space, round pipe tubing, square tubing, washers, etc. Frame seams must be visible. All threads MUST have bolt on top and bottom and NO welds. ALL THREADS AND WASHERS MAY NOT BLOCK BORE-A-SCOPE ACCESS TO THE FRAME.

12. ALL FRAMES MUST REMAIN IN OEM STOCK. NO REWELDING OF THE FRAME SEAMS OR PLATING THE ARCHES.  ANY DRIVER CAUGHT WITH AN ALTERED FRAME AT CHECK-IN INSPECTION WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENTER THE CAR. ANY DRIVER CAUGHT WITH ALTERED FRAME AT POST RACE INSPECTION WILL BE SUSPENDED FROM COMPETITION FOR ONE CALENDAR YEAR.

13. Suspension MUST remain STRICTLY STOCK. Suspension and steering components MUST be made up of stock OEM parts. (Real car parts only, no pipe, no angle iron.) Cars must set dead level, no more than 14 inches of ground clearance in the middle of the car. Cars originally equipped with rear leaf springs will not be allowed more than eight leaves in the stack. Stiffness of the suspension will be left to the discretion of the driver.

14. Trailer Hitches, Class A or frame mounted MUST be totally removed, Class B or bumper mounted, trailer ball stub MUST be cut off.

C. ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, REAR END REGULATIONS:

1. Any engine or transmission may be used in any car, but MUST be mounted in a stock position. On a V-block motor, front spark plugs MUST be even or in front of upper ball joint; on in-line motors, number two (2) spark plug MUST be even or in front of upper ball joint.

2. Engine cooling system MUST be drained and flushed free of antifreeze. Air conditioner Freon R-12 MUST be properly evacuated from system. This work MUST be accomplished BEFORE arrival at race site.

3. Chained, welded, or homemade motor mounts will be permitted, but MUST meet approval of ARPI Officials.

4. Any type of header is allowed, but MUST be directed away from driver compartment.

5. Transmission oil coolers permitted. Mountings and lines and fittings MUST be approved by ARPI inspection personnel.

6. Any automobile rear end (NO TRUCKS OR FLOATER REAR ENDS) can be used in any car. This rule does not mean you can transform a coil spring to leaf spring or vise versa. On models originally equipped with leaf springs, stock leaf springs and hangers MUST be used. On models originally equipped with coil springs, stock springs or trailing arms MUST be used. Homemade spring perches or homemade trailing arm brackets may be welded to rear end. An OEM trailing arm must be used but may be altered or reinforced in any manner. All installations MUST be approved by ARPI officials.

7. Any driveshaft or U joint may be used. Welding of drive shaft is permitted.

8. Two (2) loops of chain or wire over the STOCK CROSS MEMBER an around rear end is permitted. No pipe or angle iron may be added. Chain or cable may be installed cross ways between rear frame rails behind rear end.

D. TIRES:

1. Only sixteen (16) inch or smaller tires and wheels will be allowed. NO SPLIT RIMS ALLOWED.

2. NO paddle, pulling, or cut tires, conventional tread only.

3. All wheels and rims MUST be strictly stock. Valve stem protectors okay. No other welding or reinforcing allowed.

4. Liquid in tires permitted, studs or screws in rims to hold tires in place permitted.

E. RACING REGULATIONS:

1. All drivers MUST wear approved helmets, long pants and shirt.

2. Entries limited to one (1) driver/rider per class of car per show.

3. Qualified drivers may change cars for the Feature Event providing the car changed to has run in a prior heat at this derby.

4. A drivers' meeting will be held by the Director of Competition proceeding each derby.

5. Inspection will close one half hour before posted show time. Late arrivals will be turned away.

6. All cars MUST be removed from derby site by 12:00 noon the following day unless otherwise stated at drivers meeting. Failure to do this will result in cars being removed by and becoming property of local salvage operator.
